Chief Jailer Kirk Fields and members of his Jail Division Command Staff attended today’s graduation for eight jail detainees. These graduates successfully completed job-skills training from the Aramark Food Service Department in a program titled IN2WORK. This training provided them with the necessary skills to accelerate their re-entry into society by earning higher-level qualifications to work in the food services industry. This program is currently one of four life-skills or job-skills programs provided by the SCSO Jail Programs Office, with more skills training programs being evaluated to add to the growing list.
Additionally, Shelby County Government provides an Office of Re-Entry to assist people with criminal histories as they re-enter the workforce. The listed goals on their website https://www.scofficeofreentry.com/ are:
- To create connections between Shelby County re-entry resources and specific employers ready to hire people with a criminal history.
- To realign our focus from a traditional soft-skills training, to hands-on technical and vocational programs in an effort to assist our clients in gaining self-sufficient employment, and/or entrepreneurship.
