Shelby County Sheriff's Department “Beyond the Call of Duty End of Watch Ride to Remember”

040e

On June 25, “Beyond the Call of Duty -- End of Watch Ride to Remember” arrived at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Training Academy to honor the fallen officers from 2021, their survivors, and our agencies.

Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner, Jr. joined families of fallen officers to welcome these motorcycle riders from Spokane, WA, who have been riding across the country since June 1. The tour is led across the country by a group of motorcyclists from Washington state who escort a 40’ trailer with the names of all the fallen officers from 2021. Their goal is to ensure that no officer is forgotten, reassure the families that their loved ones will be remembered, and to provide recognition, support, and understanding to help them heal. Last year, the tour traveled more than 22,300 miles in 84 days to honor 339 officers who were killed in the line of duty in 2020. This year, the tour honors 608 fallen officers in almost 21,000 miles, 79 days.

Shelby County had a total of nine (9) Line of Duty deaths last year: Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (3), Bartlett Police Department (1), Collierville Police Department (1), and City of Memphis Police Department (4). The fallen SCSO deputies from the year 2021 are Corrections Deputy Willie Dortch, Law Enforcement Deputy Ray McCrary, Jr., and Corrections Deputy Lakiesha Tucker.

Thanks to Officer Tora Newton and members of the SCSO planning committee and the West TN Concerns of Police Survivors for organizing the event. To learn more about the End of Watch Ride to Remember, visit www.endofwatchride.com.
