Sterilization Services of Tennessee meets the current federal, state, and local legal standards for EtO emissions required by the federal Air Quality Act (1967)/Clean Air Act. The Clean Air Act does not currently allow Sterilization Services of Tennessee to be held to legal standards higher than existing ones. However, the EPA is updating Clean Air Act regulations to reduce allowable EtO emissions to better protect communities like south Memphis. Community engagement and input is an important part of the regulatory revision process.
Shelby County Health Department is promoting the community meeting through a robust direct mail, texting and social media campaign designed to reach the residents in the area most impacted by the EtO emissions. However, all community stakeholders are welcome to attend the March 28th public meeting.
