Shelby County Sheriff's Office S.H.A.R.E. Camera Program Reaping Benefits

029e

It has been more than nine months since Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner, Jr. launched a new initiative called S.H.A.R.E. (Sheriff’s Hub and Resource Exchange), which allows citizens to anonymously send photos and videos to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

S.H.A.R.E. was created in August 2021 to assist in addressing neighborhood crime using digital media as an investigative tool. This crime prevention program is actively used to aid law enforcement in solving crimes and promoting community involvement. Many residents and business owners are unaware that their camera systems may have captured information that could help solve a crime.

Since the program began, more than 230 photos and videos have been uploaded and sent to SCSO detectives. Additionally, more than 100 homes and businesses throughout Shelby County have contacted the Sheriff’s Office and registered their cameras.

SCSO continues to encourage community members to use S.H.A.R.E. to provide investigators with additional information by providing leads and identifying culprits from their surveillance footage. Data has shown that video surveillance is one of the best methods in assisting detectives by showing suspects’ description, clothing, methods they use in committing crimes like vehicle break-ins or thefts, etc.

Privacy concerns are of utmost importance to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and only authorized persons of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will have access. We will only share information outside the SCSO when necessary during a criminal investigation.

To upload photos or videos, go to www.shelby-sheriff.org/share. You may also click on the S.H.A.R.E. icon or under Resources at the top of the page. Download the Sheriff’s App on your mobile device to participate in the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office S.H.A.R.E. initiative, as well.
