Shelby County Sheriff's Office Detectives Arrest Five for Burglaries, Stolen Checks

On September 25, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office detectives responded to a burglary at the 9800 block of Humphrey Road in northeast Shelby County. A witness noticed two vehicles parked at the above address and contacted the homeowner, who confirmed nobody was supposed to be at the residence. The witness also observed four individuals moving around inside the residence. Deputies made the scene and detained four individuals. One suspect confirmed all the individuals detained were inside the residence, and that he also had prior knowledge of thefts that had previously occurred at this residence. Previously on June 17, the victim advised this residence had been recently burglarized. The victim stated he had various items stolen from the residence including appliances, electronics, jewelry, and checkbooks. All four individuals were arrested for Aggravated Burglary: Shawn Wilson, 42; Randal Case, 33; Jason Talley, 49; and Donovan Stacks, 27.

On September 26, detectives obtained and executed a search warrant for Wilson's RV and surrounding property on Mendenhall Rd. Detectives located a Yamaha motorcycle and other miscellaneous items that were stolen from the victim. Approximately $10,000 worth of property was recovered on the scene. A warrant for Shawn Wilson for Aggravated Burglary and Theft of Property will be forthcoming.

The victim also noticed he had dozens of checks that had been written and nearly $100,000 was subsequently stolen from his bank account. SCSO detectives obtained photos of the forged checks which showed the name "Andrew Vescovi" to be the recipient of 44 of them with a total amounting to $98,847.

With knowledge of the previous thefts, detectives conducted surveillance on Walton Road on September 28 and found suspect Andrew Vescovi's truck to be parked in front with a spray-painted trailer. Several checks and other items belonging to the victim were found inside suspect Vescovi's vehicle. The suspect admitted to writing checks and cashing them in Biloxi, MS. A trailer worth approximately $10,000 in Vescovi’s possession was also recovered.

Suspect William Andrew Vescovi, 44, was subsequently arrested and charged with Aggravated Burglary, Theft of Property $60,000-$250,000, Forgery $1,000 or less (10x), Forgery $1,000-$2,500 (20x), and Forgery $2,500-$10,000 (14x).

Kudos to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office detectives who investigated this case over several months, resulting in the arrest of these five individuals.
