Congrats to Officer McKee | Bartlett Police Department

Congrats to Officer McKee, our October 2022 Officer of the Month.

On October 29, 2022, Officer Chris McKee noticed the strong odor of marijuana from a car in a parking lot while on routine patrol. He located the vehicle parked in a handicapped spot without the

proper handicap placard. He made contact with the driver who provided false information about his identity.  After checking law enforcement databases, Officer McKee determined the subject's identity and that he had two open warrants out of Shelby County and a warrant out of Missouri. A VIN check of the

vehicle showed it to be stolen out of Memphis. Sometimes the smallest of efforts can lead to the most significant

discoveries.

On October 27, 2022, Officer McKee initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with a forged temporary tag. There were three occupants in the vehicle and none of them had identification on them. A VIN check revealed the vehicle stolen out of our Memphis. MPD made the scene and took

all three subjects in for questioning.

On October 26, 2022, Officer McKee was dispatched to HQ regarding a domestic disturbance in the parking lot. Once he arrived, he found the individuals sitting in their vehicle and began speaking with them.

When the driver stepped out to talk with him, he noted a large bundle of checks in the vehicle. After gathering information about both individuals, he discovered they both had drug and theft priors. He gathered something else was going on and asked the vehicle occupant for consent to search, which was agreed to. During this search, he found numerous altered checks belonging to different individuals. Further investigation led to the discovery of more than 30 victims of mail theft, identity theft, credit/debit card theft, and forgery. This case was significant enough to be taken over by the Postal Service Investigators on the Federal level.

Due to his patrol diligence and commitment to his job, Officer McKee performed in a manner consistent

with the values and expectations of the Department and the City of Bartlett.
