Shelby County Sheriff’s Office detectives continue to investigate the shooting death of Erin Last on January 14 at her residence on Breezy Shore Cove in Lakeland. In addition to this homicide investigation, SCSO detectives are looking for multiple suspects responsible for a number of thefts from motor vehicles and a home invasion/carjacking in the Lakeland area. We will determine in the course of our investigation if these crimes are related in any way. Detectives are using their due diligence in solving these crimes, as they do for any homicide investigation in unincorporated Shelby County.

SCSO Patrol division is increasing the number of patrol vehicles around Lakeland, including the areas where these crimes occurred, as well as the hotels in the Interstate 40/Canada Road area. We are also using visible assets and other strategies to increase law enforcement presence in the area.
