The Shelby County Sheriff's Office Patrol Field Bureau honors deputies who have distinguished themselves in their daily duties. On January 24 at the SCSO Training Academy, Chief Deputy Claude Robinson, Assistant Chief Deputies Newt Schaeffer, Jason Pagenkopf, Derek Mills, and Anthony Buckner, along with Chief Inspector David Boddie, Captain Nikki Masters, Lt. Todd Cockman, and Sgt. Mario Pendarvis, presented the honor to Patrolman Kennedy Sanders, honoring him as Deputy of the Month for December 2022.

On December 18, Deputy Sanders demonstrated his ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper courses of action. Following a broadcast of a vehicle stolen during a carjacking out of Memphis in the area of southeast Shelby County, Deputy Sanders located the vehicle in the drive-through of a local restaurant. He initiated a plan that prevented the suspects from fleeing in the vehicle, thus avoiding bodily harm to themselves or public. As deputies attempted to detain the vehicle, three suspects exited the vehicle and began running on foot. After a short foot pursuit, all three were detained and arrested. Deputies were able to locate inside of the vehicle an AR style BB gun, a .22 caliber pistol, and approximately two ounces of marijuana.

Additionally, Deputy Sanders is also receiving this citation for his great work ethic. His professionalism, productivity, and desire to learn exemplifies the definition of a Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputy. Deputy Sanders, who serves on the evening shift and has been with the Sheriff’s Office since June 2020, is commended for his dedication and proactive approach to his duties.
